How To Instantly Feel Better When You Are Depressed

Life is full of setbacks and heartache.
The difference between unsuccessful people and successful people often comes down to one thing: mental toughness.
You can be someone who lets failure derail you, feel like a victim, and tell “your story” of defeat to everyone you know. Or you can do the most difficult and healthy thing of all: move on and try a different approach to accomplish your goals.
Here are three mental tricks I suggest you use to feel better when you want to give up.

1. Give Someone A Genuine, Massive Compliment
The reason this technique works is that it takes the focus off yourself. It’s easy to become self-centered and overly focused on your problems until you realize something very important: EVERYONE feels like this at times. EVERYONE is insecure about something. You aren’t alone, and I’ve found that one of the most therapeutic things you can do is make someone’s day. Totally out of the blue, give them a massive, genuine compliment.
It can feel a little bit weird to do this over the phone, so I usually cheat and send a text message.
To someone who goes to the gymn trying to lose weight, I might say “I’m so impressed at your determination, you’re getting better, Keep it up!”
To someone I saw at a party last night I might say, “I don’t know what it was about you last night, but you looked really classy/confident/beautiful/etc for some reason. Whatever you are doing, keep it up!”
To someone who has an important interview/game/speech coming up I might say, “You’re going to do great, you’ve worked really hard for this and you deserve it!”
Your goal should be to make them blush or fill them with confidence. Make someone else’s day with a massive genuine compliment to take the focus off of yourself and you’ll start to feel better right away.

2. Be Thankful For What You’ve Learned
No matter how bad it is, no matter how much it hurts, no matter how much money you lost….the lesson you learned from it is FAR more valuable, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time.
Even if someone TOTALLY took advantage of you or did you wrong, take a minute to actually thank them in your own mind or out loud. You can bet it will feel strange and it will go against every instinct in your body, but thank them for teaching you such a valuable lesson.
It will make you much stronger next time.
When a supervisor took advantage of me one time over some commission deals, I was filled with anger and frustration. Most of all I was mad at myself for letting him do it. I ended up taking him to the management which caused even more frustration and lost sleep. But in the end I was able to thank him for teaching me such a valuable lesson.
If I hadn’t had this setback, I would be just as naive. I wouldn’t know how to get a rock solid contract next time. I wouldn’t know to inspect the contract more thoroughly before making my commitments!
The money I lost on that deal has taught me enough to make it back tenfold down the line. It was worth every penny in education.

3. Read Some Books and Quotes from the Greats
Finally, when I’m feeling down I like to read some books and quotes from some of the most successful
people of all time. This is a great reminder that EVERYONE must face setbacks. In fact, it is a pre-requisite for success. There is no record of anybody accomplishing anything without MANY setbacks and failures along the way.
Setbacks let you know that you’re making progress.
Here are a few of my favorites:

Success is the ability to move from one failure to the next with enthusiasm.- Winston Churchhill

Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touchdown. - Ross Perot

Every single peak performing human being, every single high achieving man or woman, has been a person who has thrown off the natural tendency to play it safe and stay within the comfort zone, and has continually tried to exceed their previous levels of accomplishment, has continually moved forward into the risk zone, to try something more and bigger and better and more important.
Every single accomplishment in the history of man, has come from men and women who have had the courage to take the risks, to step out even though they had no guarantee or assurance of success…
In studying the lives and stories of the most outstanding men and women of all in history, we find that every single one of them has been a great failure. People do not understand the importance of failure in achievement. The fact is that it is impossible to succeed without failing, that failure is an indispensable prerequisite for success, and that all great success is proceeded by great failure. Every single person who has tried to accomplish something outside the ordinary has suffered a setback and obstacle and defeat and adversity and disappointment and heartache
over and over again as they have moved toward their goal. There is no record of anybody ever having achieved any kind of success without having failed over and over again. The only difference is that the winners continually pick themselves up and carry on knowing that ultimate success is inevitable as long as they keep on going on. - Brian Tracy

Life isn’t an easy journey, and the measure of a true champion is not how far you go, it’s how far you bounce back after facing defeat.I wish you the best.

15 inspirational quotes

I’ve always have this penchant for inspirational positive quotes. It’s amazing what those mere strings of words can do. Seemingly simple. Yet interestingly profound.
Indulge in the tranquil moment as you read with both your eyes and heart.
Remember, eyes may provide sight. But it’s the heart which gives insight.
Enjoy.

Five things to remain positive about when all hope is gone

I began researching for this article when I felt all hope is gone. The reason I tell you this is that I’m all now about living positively, in a life we have designed and one that is full of happiness. Thanks to the discovery that I have five things that I shall permanently remain positive about, because they’re in me and shall always remain within my control.

So what’re the five things that you should always remain positive about, especially to take you through your low moments?

This is my take

1 Your Health

I love the saying ‘if there’s nothing wrong with your health, you do not have a problem’. I do not fully believe in it but it definitely makes sense. When we are born, the only other thing we have in common is that we are going to die.
The discovery that your health is the most important asset you have is a very important one. No matter how much money you have or the car you drive, they’re completely useless if you’re not healthy.
When all is low, just remember that you’re alive and healthy and you have the rest of your life infront of you. There’s no greater achievement than the gift of life.

2 There’s always tomorrow

Have you ever worried about something a lot, maybe because of impatience, then woken up the next day and found out that you really don’t care about the problem anymore?
It’s always happened to me. The truth is tomorrow will be here just like today was, no matter how bad things are going or how serious things may seem. It shall be there when you wake up and give you hundreds more of opportunities.
This does not mean you put off thing to tomorrow, it means you realize that you still have the time to turn things around and improve the situation.

3 Your potential

There are people in this world who are billionaires. Others invented the internet, discovered gravity, electricity and even the everyday gadgets we use everybody. Do you know the difference between you and these people??

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Some people never realize their full potential because they believe that success and fame are left for people more fortunate than them. Do you think Bill Gates woke up and decided just to do his thing? No way, he just had an idea of what he wanted and set out to achieve it.
You have the potential to be anyone and do anything you want; our time on this planet gives us amazing
chances and opportunities don’t waste it because you feel like you have no hope. You have as good a
chance to change the world as anybody else; you just have to realize it.
People made millions, people saved lives, you are a person, and you can do the same.

4 Things could be worse

Things could be worse; I can assuredly say this could be true in at least 99% of the situations we find ourselves in.
Believe it that no matter what situation you are in now, it could degenerate further. If you’re struggling to pay your next bill, count yourself lucky that you still have that roof over your head. If you’ve just divorced your wife, it’s not like all the other women in the world have disappeared. When you want to you can still go out there and get yourself another wife.
Life is abundant, don’t take your current situation as the worst it could be, because more often than not, things could be a whole level worse than you can imagine.

5 You’ll come out stronger

This is the most important of them all when you’re really low. Take every experience of hardship as a lesson that can only make you stronger. This is something that you’ve probably heard a 101 times because it’s true.

Think of any hard time in your life, whether it’s
- losing your job
- losing someone close to you
- Going through a divorce
- Getting robbed / beaten up/ mugged ( I’ve had two of these)
- Being financially unstable

If you’ve been through any of these and come out the other side then you know that the experiences have made you stronger as a person and helped you understand other aspects of life. Be thankful for the challenges you’ve encountered already, because on the other side there’s always a new you with a lot more strength than the old one.

Four proven steps to be a calmer person

I love Sunday mornings- when I wake up I just lie in bed and spend sometime without the need to do anything – no need to rush, no need to talk to anyone. That lying, with my eyes open and nothing in my mind, is normally one of the calmest moments in my life.
I have decided to try and be a calm person in everything I do. I believe it will help me make better decisions, to be more focused and ultimately help lead a stress free life. Here is the path I have so far identified and has endeavored to use:-

1 Live in the now

This is the most proven technique to achieve calmness. It’s clear when you wake up and decide to do nothing but just lie in bed. The same goes for everything you do.
If am now typing my post, I stop browsing other sites and articles. I believed multitasking was the best thing that ever happened, but I’ve discovered that I can achieve more by just concentrating on one thing at a time. I know miracles can and will happen when I focus.
If I start this, I will be more focused in all I do. After a while I hope to see that am not worried about what the future holds for me. As long as I stick to my plan, I am confident I’ll do great.

2 Forget things I can not fix now

I am a service engineer – this gives me a lot of problems to be fixed in different machines in several companies. Some are quite critical and challenging – and I often can not stop thinking about them even at home.
I’ve discovered that his is not good, and I’ve resolved not to carry work home. Anything I can’t fix at work I will forget about it till the next day.
What’s the point of thinking about a machine at a customer site when am at home? My family and house deserves better attention from me. Previously I thought that by thinking about the machine problems at home I may stumble upon a solution that may make my job easier tomorrow.
I think nothing is worth the five hours or so of family time. The machines have and will always be there – but I cannot say the same about family members. The children are growing fast before my eyes and there is nothing I shall do about the time I shall have missed.

3 Let Go

Not all problems in my life need to be fixed. Not all mail in my inbox need to be read and / or replied. Some problems are meant for someone else, like treating cancer and so on ….
Others are not meant to be solved at all, like the case of a bullying spouse. You may talk to him, his family, his church or counselor and so on but still there is no change. All you can do is let go – quit your marriage or bear it all. Either way he will still be the bully he is.
In the end I have learnt that I can not have everything. So I’ve learnt to let go. I’ve stopped trying to fix it. This will help minimize damage and let me go on with my life. A falling rock will hurt me less if I catch it with my hands moving down than when my hand is moving up.

4 Set a limit

This is the most important of them all. I'll write down the three cases above and determine when they’re valid or not.
For example, I'll look for situations when forgetting things may make me lose my job or family. Being calm is good, but not to the extent of losing a job or family. Some issues that require urgency will remain urgent unless sorted out.
Determine which issues are urgent shall be the pillar in my decision making - and the ultimate path to calmness.
